Valley Vet offers a selection of Cap-Chur Needles you can use to make medical procedures safe and effective. The type of Cap-Chur needle used will determine how you recover the syringe. See below for more information.

The Barbed Needles are used only when you want the syringe to stay with the animal until it goes down, when using a Transmitter Syringe, and in cases where the animal might eat or damage the syringe. Some people try to use barbed needles to overcome their mistake in range judgment thinking the barb will not bounce out. However, this assumption is wrong and any needle type will bounce out if you hit it too hard, causing administration problems. These are available as 1 1/8" needles or 1 1/2" needles. Cone Collar Needles are used only when you want the syringe to stay with the animal until it goes down. These are 1 1/8" needles.

Use the Drop-Off Needles when medicating animals or when you want the syringe to fall out quickly, like with deer and bison. In a case where the animal could run off into thick cover or if you don't want the animal to run around with a syringe sticking out of it, these needles are a good choice. These needles are available in 1 1/4".

Our Side-Port Type Needles offer the benefit of the medicine being delivered over twice the area due to the side delivery system. This makes for a smaller injection site and a faster injection and absorption of the medicine into the animal. Even if the syringe misses its target, the syringe can still empty even if it has hit the ground, since the point will not be filled with dirt or trash. The Side-Port Needles are an especially good choice in urban settings where there is an opportunity for someone to find a lost syringe. (Animal Controls many times choose this needle for this reason). These needles are available as 1 1/8", 3/4", and 1 1/4".

Large Collar Needles are used mainly in immobilization work. There are a few cases where you may have to use the large collar to give medication, such as on thin-skinned animals where you would be using large quantities of thick medication. These needles are 1 1/8".

Many times, Plain Needles will be paired with a Side-Port Plain so that they can effectively administer medication. Plain Needles do not stay in until the syringe is empty, so increasing your drug dosage to cover the loss of medication may be necessary. With the smaller syringes, such as 1 and 2cc syringes, the animal will probably get all of the medication without having to re-administer medication.
